After living at Motel69Star for almost six months, Jack
finally talked Davey and a friend named Eric into having a sleepover.
“Only if we can sleep with the lights on,” Davey
said. Eric agreed.
That night at the Motel69Star, Jack, Davey, and
Eric heard something clanking in the closet.
“Ghoul!” Eric shrieked. “There’s a ghoul in the
closet, just like Rebecca’s mom said!”
Davey and Eric ran to the corner of the room. Jack’s dad was
fast asleep, even with the lights on. He was a deep sleeper.
“It’s not a ghoul,” Jack said. Shadow cowered under the
covers. Jack went over to the closet to investigate.
“Tell it to shush, Jack!” Davey yelled. The
clanking got louder.
“Yeah, tell it we don’t like ghouls!” Eric chimed
in. The clanking got even louder.
“Mr. Ghoul,” Jack said nervously. “Can you please
stop clanking?” The clanking fell silent.
“All you had to do was say please,” said a voice
from inside the closet.
All three boys screamed, waking Jack’s dad. Mr. Gary, the
maintenance man, had been working on the noisy generator on the other side of
the wall. It had turned on because of the extra lights. There was no ghoul
after all!
